Qualifications: (others may apply)
Applicants must meet the following minimum standards to be considered for employment:
- Possess a high school diploma or GED. The State of North Carolina does not recognize a high school correspondence diploma; you are required to obtain a high school equivalency.
- Be at least 20 years old at the time of initial application.
- Be a United States citizen.
- Have or be able to obtain a North Carolina Driver's License.
- Have not committed or been convicted of a felony.
- Have not committed or been convicted of a serious misdemeanor in the preceding five years.
- Have not committed or been convicted of Driving While Impaired during the preceding five years.
- Have an Honorable Military Discharge; General and Uncharacterized Discharges are evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
- Pass an extensive background investigation including psychological examination.
- Pass Medical standards for sworn applicants are based on Medical Screening Guidelines for the Certification of a Sheriff’s Deputy in the State of North Carolina.
- Pass a pre-employment Medical Examination and Drug Screening Test.
- Certain past drug use will result in disqualification. Marijuana usage in the last six months or the use of Schedule I drugs or cocaine within the past three years will result in an automatic disqualification.
HIRING PROCESS
STEP 1 - Application
The application process starts here:
Click APPLY NOW to complete the NC F-3.
- Sign up for an account if you do not already have one.
- Click on "NC Sheriff F-3." (do not use NC Police F-3)
- On the next page, enter the last four digits of your SSN and then click "Continue."
- Enter the position(s) and agency name of “Randolph County Sheriff’s Office” to which you are applying (the names will pop up after you begin typing).
- After your online F-3 is complete, you will be given two options. Print - you are allowed unlimited prints of this completed F-3.
- Pay - if you select this option, you will be prompted for payment information. This is not required, but is a good option if you need to access your F-3 in the future to edit or apply to another agency.
