On August 29, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to an agency assist request by the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office, who were tracking a vehicle reported stolen out of Lexington that had entered Randolph County. Randolph County deputies located the vehicle in the area of Meadowbrook Rd. and Kennedy Farm Rd. and initiated a traffic stop. The driver of the vehicle refused to stop, and a chase ensued onto Hoover Hill Rd. While on Hoover Hill Rd., near US Hwy 64 W., deputies observed a trash truck stationary in the roadway, and a white flatbed truck leaving a driveway. At that time the driver of the stolen vehicle attempted to go around the white flatbed, however the white flatbed truck blocked the roadway causing the driver of the stolen vehicle to run into it. The driver, later identified as Lucas McKenzie Lewis, exited the vehicle and was immediately taken into custody without incident. He was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for charges of felony flee/elude arrest with motor vehicle, improper pass, left of center line/grade/curve, fail to stop at a stop sign. He was also served an outstanding order for arrest out of Guilford County for misdemeanor failure to appear. He was issued a $15,500 total secured bond and a first appearance was set for August 30, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
Additional charges will be sought by Lexington Police Department.
