On August 6, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on W. Salisbury St., Asheboro. Upon approach, the driver was identified as Joshua Steven Dunlap, who had a suspended driver’s license for which he was issued a warning citation. It was later determined that Dunlap had an outstanding order for his arrest for failure to appear. The passenger was identified as Heather Noell Prater, who also had an outstanding order for her arrest for failure to appear. During a subsequent search, illegal narcotics and paraphernalia were located. Both were arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for the charges, as follows:
- DUNLAP- felony possession of methamphetamine, felony maintain vehicle for controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, and was served his order for arrest. He was issued a $10,000 secured bond.
- PRATER- felony possession of heroin, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, and also served her order for arrest. She was issued a $2,500 secured bond.
A first appearance was set for both on August 8, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
