On August 3, 2025, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call on Loflin Pond Rd., in Asheboro, regarding a vehicle theft that had already occurred. The theft had taken place on July 30, 2025, allegedly after the vehicle had run out of gas and was left on the side of the roadway. The last known operator of the vehicle was identified as Kaitlin Marie Adkins.
After further investigation by the Criminal Interdiction Team Urban Unit, it was determined that Adkins had falsely reported that the vehicle was stolen, when in fact it was not. The magistrate found probable cause for the charges of felony insurance fraud < $100,000 and felony obstructing justice. She was also served with two orders for arrest on misdemeanor charges and received a $3,000 secured bond. Her first appearance is scheduled for August 12, 2025, in Randolph County District Court.
