On March 28, 2025, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to I-73/74, Asheboro, in reference to a possible overdose. A State Highway Patrol Trooper was first on the scene and administered Narcan to the victim who then became conscious. Randolph County EMS responded and transported the male, identified as Eric Jackson Swaney, for further evaluation. During a search to tow the vehicle, an illegal substance was located. Charges were sought for felony possession of a Schedule I controlled substance and the magistrate found probable cause to issue a warrant.
On April 3, 2025, the Criminal Apprehension Team located Swaney, arrested him, and transported him to the Randolph County Detention Center, where he was served his outstanding warrant. No release was authorized in the matter of the warrant. The magistrate issued a $5,000 secured bond on the probation violation. A first appearance for April 4, 2025, in Randolph County District Court.
