On March 5, 2025, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Old County Farm Rd., Sophia, in reference to an assault in progress. Randolph Communications advised a gunshot was heard in the background during the call.
Upon arrival, Carlos Alberto Marquez-Murillo was located walking out of the residence and was detained. The victim advised that Marquez-Murillo showed up at the residence, appeared intoxicated, began knocking on the door, and then forced his way into the residence armed with weapons. He proceeded to point a gun at the victims in the residence. One of the victims pushed the barrel towards the floor and the gun went off but a bullet did not hit anyone. The caller also reported being assaulted during the altercation. Firearms used were located during the investigation. Marquez-Murillo was observed on the security camera footage carrying a firearm into the residence, and then later exiting the residence with it as well. He was also seen placing it in a building. He is a convicted felon.
He was placed under arrest and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for felony first-degree burglary, felony break & enter to terrorize, felony discharge weapon in an occupied dwelling, two counts of felony possession of a firearm by felon, two counts misdemeanor assault with deadly weapon, misdemeanor assault on a female, and misdemeanor communicating threats. Marquez-Murillo was given a $10,000 total secured bond on the Firearm by Felon charges and no bond on the additional charges since they were domestic in nature. A first appearance was set for March 5, 2025, in Randolph County District Court.
