On February 13, 2025, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on NC Hwy 62, Thomasville. A citation was issued to the driver for an expired operator's license and a rear lamp violation.
During the traffic stop, a Thomasville Police Department officer and K9 responded to the scene. After deputies had the occupants exit the vehicle, the K9 was deployed and alerted to the presence of narcotics on the passenger side of the vehicle. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, methamphetamine and paraphernalia were located in the passenger area. The passenger was identified as David Joseph Deluca. He was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for felony possession of methamphetamines and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Deluca was not given a bond due to being out on pre-trial release. A first appearance was set for February 14, 2025, in Randolph County District Court.
