On July 6, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop on NC Hwy 49, Asheboro. Upon approach of the motorcycle, the driver identified himself as Jonathan Paul McArthur. During the investigation, the deputy discovered the motorcycle had been reported stolen to the Winston-Salem Police Department on June 15, 2023. McArthur was then detained during the investigation. Mr. McArthur stated he had bought the motorcycle. The deputy wanted to further investigate this incident but released McArthur following being issued a citation for driving while license revoked, real lamp violation, and registration violation.
The owner of the motorcycle was contacted and responded to collect it. Upon arrival, the owner had the original keys and was able to provide additional information and evidence regarding the theft. The address of the victim is approximately a mile from where McArthur lived. The new keys were retained for evidence.
On July 9, 2023, following an investigation, charges were sought against Jonathan Paul McArthur for felony possession of a stolen good. The magistrate found probable cause and issued a warrant for felony possession of stolen goods.
On February 2, 2025, McArthur was located during a traffic stop. He was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where he was served the outstanding warrant and the magistrate issued a $2,000 secured bond and a first appearance was set for February 3, 2025, in Randolph County District Court.
McArthur was also brought before the magistrate for the charges obtained during the traffic stop for misdemeanor resisting public officer, misdemeanor possess/sell/buy motor vehicle with altered serial number, misdemeanor drive/allow mv no registration, and misdemeanor fictious/altered registration plate/tag. He was also served an outstanding order for arrest for failure to appear. The magistrate issued a $11,500 secured bond on his outstanding warrants and orders for arrest, for a total of $13,500.
