On July 13, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to NC Hwy 49 N., Liberty, in reference to a burglary. Upon arrival, the victim provided information about the items missing, moved, or that had been gone through. Crime Scene Investigation Detectives responded to process the scene and collect evidence.
On July 14, 2024, the Liberty Police Department initiated a traffic stop on a Honda dirt bike driven by a white male, which led to a vehicle chase. Deputies responded to the area to assist and arrived as officers took the suspected driver, Hunter Jackson Freeman, into custody after a foot chase. The dirt bike was confirmed to be the same one stolen in the July 13th incident and was seized for the original owner.
A deputy went before the magistrate and swore out the charges against Freeman for Felony Breaking &/or Entering, Felony Larceny After Breaking &/or Entering, Felony Breaking &/or Entering a Motor Vehicle with Theft, Felony Breaking &/or Entering a Motor Vehicle (three counts), Attempted Felony Larceny, and Misdemeanor Injury to Personal Property related to the July 13th incident. The magistrate found probable cause for the offenses.
After Freeman arrived at the Detention Center, he was served with his outstanding warrant and received no bond. A first appearance was set for July 15, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
