On July 6, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Finch Farm Rd., Trinity, in reference to an agency assist. Communications advised that a driver had fled the scene of an accident but had gone across the street to Sheetz. Upon arrival, deputies located the male subject in front of Sheetz. He was later identified as Skylar Jordan Payne and was detained until NC State Highway Patrol (NCSHP) arrived to investigate the accident.
After the Trooper's investigation, Payne was placed under arrest for driving while impaired and methamphetamine was located in his possession during the search to arrest. The deputy went before the magistrate and sought a charge for felony possession of methamphetamine and the magistrate found probable cause to issue a warrant.
On July 7, 2024, the Sheriff’s Office was notified by the NCSHP that the vehicle Payne had been driving on July 6th had been reported stolen to the High Point Police Department. The deputy petitioned for an additional warrant against Payne for felony possession of stolen motor vehicle and the magistrate found probable cause to issue.
On July 8, 2024, Payne, still confined in the Randolph County Detention Center for the driving while impaired issued by the NCSHP, was served with his outstanding warrants and received no bond awaiting his first appearance in Randolph County District Court on July 8, 2024.
