On October 20, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Castle Rock Rd. and Hodge Rd. in reference to a larceny in progress and the caller provided a description of a van involved.
Upon arrival, the deputy positioned the patrol vehicle across Castlerock Rd. to prevent the van from leaving the scene. Upon arriving on scene, the responding deputy walked to the end of Castlerock Rd. and located the potential suspect, identified as Trae Wayne Martin. Trae was squatted down next to a Duke Energy power pole and appeared to be doing something with his hands. When Martin saw the deputy, he began to flee on foot. After a brief foot chase, Martin stopped running and was taken into custody without further incident.
During a subsequent search of Martin and the area, evidence of larceny was located and collected.
During the investigation, it was determined that Jeffrey Lynn Corum, Jr. was also involved in the theft.
Martin was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for felony injuring utility wires/fixture, felony poss. stolen goods/property, felony larceny, felony injury property obtaining nonferrous metals, and resisting public officer. No bond was given due to the Pre-Trial Integrity Act. A first appearance was set for October 23, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
Charges were also sought for Jeffrey Lynn Corum, Jr. for felony injuring utility wires/fixture, felony injury property obtaining nonferrous metal, felony possession of stolen goods, and felony larceny. Deputies arrested Corum on another call for service on Camellia Ln. later in the day where he was served this outstanding warrant and received a $25,000 bond.
