On October 6, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Highway Criminal Interdiction Team conducted a traffic stop on I-85 in Archdale. During a subsequent search, marijuana and several fraudulent identity cards were located. Detectives also located and recovered over $10,000 in fraudulently purchased power equipment.
As a result, Anthony Smith of New York, the driver and sole occupant, was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for felony financial card theft, misdemeanor possession of counterfeit ID, and simple possession of marijuana. He was issued a $25,000 secured bond along with electronic house arrest. Mr. Smith’s first appearance was set for October 9, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
