Sheriff's Office Significant Arrests Posted on March 25, 2026

On April 29, 2020, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Cheyenne Trail, Pleasant Garden, in reference to a larceny of a firearm. It was entered into NCIC. 

Following a lengthy investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division, charges were sought against James Lucas Cumby, Jr. for felony possession of a firearm by a felon, felony possession of a stolen firearm, and felony obtain property by false pretense on March 24, 2026. 

On March 25, 2026, Cumby was located and arrested by the Criminal Apprehension Team.  During the search to arrest, Detectives located cocaine and paraphernalia in his possession.  He was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where the magistrate found probable cause for felony possession of cocaine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also served with his outstanding warrants. No bond was set at this time on the possession of a firearm by a felon charge, a $30,000 secured bond was set on the possession of a stolen firearm warrant, and a $15,000 was set on the magistrate’s order ($45,000 total secured bond) and is to appear in Randolph County District Court on March 26, 2026.
