A marriage license must be obtained before a marriage ceremony is performed. NCGS 51-6
The county commissioners have authorized us per Resolution to suspend the recording of real estate documents, the issuance of notary oaths, and marriage licenses at 4:30 pm every day.
Applicants 21 years of Age or Older
Must provide the following forms of identification:
**A matricular consular or other similar document, other than a valid passport issued by a consulate or embassy of another country, is not acceptable for use in determining a person's actual identity or residency. N.C. Session Law 2015-294
Or
Valid Passport issued by US or a Foreign Country.
Or
If an applicant has not been issued a Social Security Number, then you must provide a notarized affidavit that states "I have not been issued a Social Security Number by the US government and I am not eligible to obtain one."
Applicants 18-20 Years of Age
Must also provide a certified copy of birth certificate in addition to all the requirements listed above.
Applicants 16-18 Years of Age
Must have consent from a parent with full custody or both parents with joint custody or a person, agency or institution having legal custody or serving as legal guardian of the applicant. Documentation of custody, if applicable, must be presented at the time of application along with valid IDs of parents. In addition to all the requirements listed above.
