On March 14, 2026, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to NC HWY 42 S., Asheboro, in reference to a welfare check. Upon arrival, it was determined that Madeline Anne Lyman had broken into a residence with a shovel she obtained from the carport, claiming to have crashed her car in front of the residence and that someone was chasing her on foot. Deputies did not locate a wrecked vehicle or any other subjects in the area. She was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where the magistrate found probable cause for first-degree burglary. She was issued no bond, and a first appearance was set for March 16, 2026, in Randolph County District Court.
