Environmental Health:


Promoting, protecting, and improving community health and safety through the implementation of state laws and regulations.  This section performs plan review, permitting, and inspections of restaurants, food stands, mobile food units, childcare facilities, schools,  tattoo establishments, public swimming pools, septic systems, and private drinking water wells.  

Food & Lodging 

Food & Lodging services includes inspection of facilities according to law;  posting inspection grade cards for public view; assurance that facilities are being constructed to meet North Carolina sanitation guidelines; investigation of complaints and foodborne illness outbreaks; the provision of food sanitation and safety education for food handlers; and the provision of environmental investigations to determine the source of lead exposure in children reported to have elevated blood lead levels.

On-Site Water Protection

The On-site Water Protection section evaluates properties for proper siting, permitting, and design of septic systems and private drinking water wells.  We work with landowners, builders, septic and well contractors, and others to protect public health, safety, and the environment.
